The Oscars 2017

Sometimes we tend to forget that we are on national TV, and other times we are just handed the wrong card. This past week, February 26, 2017, the 89th Academy Awards were held in Los Angeles, California. Where the wrong winner was announced for the category of Best Picture.

Hours before the show ended, it was Warren Beatty‘s and Faye Dunaway‘s turn to announce the winners as Best Picture of 2016. It wasn’t until after announcing “La La Land” as the winners of best picture that they realized they made a mistake. The cast of “La La Land” came on stage to celebrated their win, but it was immediately corrected who were the actually winners, Moonlight, ending their celebration with both cast on stage.

The reason Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway made this mistake was because they were handed the card for best actress, won by actress Emma Stone, instead of best picture. Before announcing “La La Land” they both seemed to be confusing taking their time to read what the card said. The audience thought that it was part of the show and would laugh constantly as they both looked confused.

Steve Harvey, who had announced the wrong winner in the 2015 Miss Universe competition, reacted to this mistake by quoting Martin Luther King‘s “Free at last, free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last”. Then taking it to twitter Steve also tweeted “Call me Warren Beatty. I can help you get through this! #Oscars

The Miss Universe pageant also had something to say, taking it to twitter as well, they tweeted “Have your people call our people – we know what to do. #Oscars #MissUniverse”. Many people were not happy about these tweets because they thought it was unfair that the Miss Universe pageant was mocking the award show.

The Cast of “La La Land” however did handle this pretty well. I mean they were nominated for 14 categories and took home 7 of these award, they will be fine!
