Five Things: Shakira

This Colombian and Lebanese beauty seems to never age. From her crazy hip movements to editing her own music videos, this incredible “Beautiful Liar” singer has made charts in both the American Music industry and the Latin Music Industry. Here are five things you did not know about Shakira Shakira! ūüé∂

1.When Shakira was younger she was rejected from choir class.

The teacher believed that Shakira sounded like a goat…. well i guess she didn’t need this choir¬†class, considering where she is now. Shakira¬†didn’t disagree with the teacher’s opinion though, but she was advised by her father¬†not to give up and to follow her dreams.

2.Shakira can speak five different languages from around the world.

She speaks Spanish, English, French, Italian and Portuguese. She must have no problems when it comes to communicating while on tour! But this eleven time Grammy award winner turned down a huge opportunity in the famous movie “The Mask of Zorro”, as she was offered the leading role. Shakira turned down this opportunity because she believed that her English was not good enough for the role.

3.Shakira’s name is Arabic.¬†

The name “Shakira’ actually means “Thankful” in the Arabic language.

4.She is married to Gerard Pique.

Gerard Pique and Shakira met as he participated in the video for the World Cup song sang by Shakira, “Waka Waka”. They currently have two kids, Milan and Sasha Pique. Shakira and her husband actually share the same birthday which is February 2nd.

5.This is no secret, but Shakira has been dancing since she was a young child.

She learned her dance moves from her Lebanese grandmother. She wanted to stay in touch with her Arabic roots and believed that dancing would be the best way to do so. She learned how to belly dance at a young age, and I believe it paid off. In the music video “Beautiful Liar” she taught Beyonce a few dance moves.
